Eleven invoice books for Scotts Milling Company, Scotts, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, 1965. Materials relating to Richard Brewer's book Atlas of breedng birds of Michigan, 1991, including correspondence, artists' drawings, introduction, rough drafts, newsletter, ca. 1988-1990. Approximately 200 black and white photgraphs by Lawrence H. Walkinshaw. Photographs show birds in their various habitats, nesting sites, and were taken throughout the United States, with the marjority from Michigan, ca. 1930s-1950s. A series of articles about passenger pigeons. A quantity of material about the Kalamazoo Nature Center, Inc., including by-laws, budgets, executive director job descriptions, Future Committee notes, mission statement, and minutes, primarily 1980-1986.

Lawrence H. Walkinshaw (1904-1993) graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1929. Though a dentist by training, he was a leading authority on cranes on which he published 61 articles and two books: The Sandhill Cranes (1949) and Cranes of the World (1973). He described the Canadian sandhill crane (Grus canadensis rowani) in 1965. He published on other species as well, most notably Kirtland's warbler.
